01. Cultural Mapping & Site Study

The first project for my heritage extension module. Being put into groups of 5, we were assigned a specific street within Kuala Lumpur to conduct a site analysis in a cultural context and present it. For my group, we were given Medan Pasar and Lebuh Ampang as our street.

02. Heritage and Conservation Proposal Report

The second project of Heritage Conservation, I was required to provide a conservation proposal for a building I had previously chosen from Medan Pasar, the street that was assigned during the first project. I had to conduct a dilapidation survey and provide remedial suggestions to the issues, then propose an adaptive reuse for the building.

Reflection

This module has overall given me a lot of insight regarding the thought process of heritage conservation and the procedures that must be taken to consider a heritage project. I have gained understanding in cultural, community and historical significance and the ties it can have towards buildings.
