Architecture &
Environment
This module introduces the components of environmental conditions to be considered in architecture design. Focusing on human intervention that affects the environment both positively and negatively, and the relationship of buildings with the natural system.
01. Assessing Daylight &
Thermal Comfort in Modern Houses
The first group assignment for the module, it consisted of selecting a house between the members of the group that had two rooms with evident issues concerning daylight and thermal comfort. We were to conduct research on the environmental, daylight, and thermal factors of the house's general area and the chosen rooms. Next, we had to create solutions to the room's issues and compile all our information into two A2 sized boards digitally.
02. Green Buildings in Malaysia
The second group assignment for Architecture & Environment, consisting of a case study about one green building in Malaysia. The building has to be GBI (Green building Index) certified to be used, hence our group had chosen the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), which holds a GBI platinum certification. This assignment required us to conduct research about the different sustainability factors and methods ISKL uses with their campus, then to compile them into a single A1 sized board digitally with the relevant information.
Reflection
Overall, I've learned a lot in this module. Such as the different ways to improve natural daylighting or increase airflow into spaces. This module has also taught me about the different factors that contribute to making a building sustainable, along with the mandatory laws that buildings must abide to.
